We appreciate your interest in Hong Kong’s unique hand-carved mahjong tiles, with special colors mix!
The Cheung family has passed down traditional mahjong craftsmanship through generations in Hong Kong. Master Cheung Sing Chung, Ricky, one of Hong Kong’s remaining hand-carved mahjong masters with over 50 years of experience, hand-carves this exquisite full set of mahjong tiles. Master Cheung’s brother then hand-paints them. Master Cheung learned these traditional techniques from his father, starting at the age of 13. Each tile represents a labor of love, meticulously hand-carved, hand-painted, and rubbed off by Cheung’s family, making this set a truly unique gift. The quality of the hand-carving is exceptional. We invite you to help us preserve the tradition of mahjong tile craftsmanship.
Available in two options of color combinations for the hand-painted details:
- Silver & Red
- Silver & Turquoise

Story Behind the Art of Mahjong Craft
Mahjong is a popular game for family and friends among the Chinese community, and in recent years, its popularity has been growing worldwide. Karen’s grandfather, who began as an apprentice, founded ‘Fuk Hing Lung,’ a major Hong Kong mahjong factory, in 1963. Karen’s father inherited and expanded the business, making it one of the largest factories in Hong Kong during the 1980s and 1990s. The entire family participated in the factory’s operations. However, due to industry decline and economic pressures, the factory could not survive and it was finally closed in 2009.
However, the spirit of traditional mahjong tile craftsmanship lives on. Ten years after the factory closed, Karen (illustrator name: Karen Aruba) and her father combined creative art and traditional mahjong craftsmanship to create the artisan mahjong sets.
